Dream it.

First of all comes the vision. It might be your own vision, or ADLA can present a variety of ideas based on our initial meeting. In the concept development phase, hand drawings illustrate different options for landscape layout and elements, and help you choose the best fit for your dream garden. You will end at the right vision by exploring possibilities along the way.

Key to this phase is :

  • Getting to know the Client - what kind of a lifestyle are you chasing? how do you currently use your garden? what is your landscape taste? what do you like in a garden? what are your ‘must haves’? A conversation to answer all these questions is the starting point

  • Site assessment - working with existing features of the property, the local climate and sub-climate

  • Appropriate landscape design style for the architecture of the building (house) - the garden needs to connect aesthetically with the home

  • Careful integration between house and garden - outside comes indoors and vice versa

Design it.

The planning process is seen as the most important aspect of any new garden. ADLA takes the time to ensure you are more than satisfied with the end result through good communication. Client input is fundamental throughout the design phase. We look together at the practical requirements, assessing garden maintenance capabilities for preferred garden styles and informing the direction the design takes.

Key to this phase is :

  • Communication between the designer and Client to ensure the design is Client-led.

  • Translating the vision into plans - with consideration of budget and material preferences, our initial conversations are converted into plans, which are then put to you for review

  • Consideration of passive solar and ventilation design aspects through plants and design elements - creating a comfortable home from the outside in

  • Consideration of sustainable solutions - responsible water use, the use of recycled and local materials and the possibility of home-grown produce

Build it.

Once the vision and the planning are set, it’s time to get the ideas ‘in the ground’'. Detailed plans are key to the successful implementation of a garden. A high level of specification ensures the original vision is retained, that selected materials are locked in and that workman-ship is accountable. Clearly spelling-out the level of quality for your garden means the end result will be lower maintenance, hard-wearing and enduring.

Key to this phase is:

  • Preparation of detailed plans which can be handed on to a contractor to implement

  • Specifications for materials, building methods, landscape elements such as steps, walls and pergolas and of course the plants

  • Call for quotes - I can request quotes, engage landscape contractors and manage the build on your behalf, so you don’t have to worry about a thing!
