Spring Hill Farm

There were good landscape bones at this property already, with a wonderful cypress entry hedge channeling a view into the property, some good stands of pin oaks, ornamental pear trees and a chestnut tree orchard. Add rolling hills, views to a dam and pretty bushland backdrop and it was a picture perfect site to be asked to design.

A new house was to be built and so ADLA’s first involvement was assisting with orientating the house. The landscape layout included a contained north-facing, protected ornamental garden, while from the other side of the house, maintaining good views from the living spaces to the view over the dam and across to a leafy canopy.

Included in the brief for the master plan were tree avenues, trees for shade and wind protection, the circulation and parking for vehicles, creating a strong visual entrance to the new farm house, organising the utility areas for maximum ease of use on a working farm and a small secondary produce garden, including fruit trees.

More recently ADLA was called to design wind breaks to protect the house from the dominant winds.

More than two decades have passed since the original planning for and planting of Spring Hill farm and a recent visit showed excellent growth of the ornamental and produce trees, as well as the excellent flowering garden that the client developed herself.
