Beresford Avenue

This award-winning garden, completely reconstructed from front to back, was beautifully executed by Sand and Stone Landscapes in Sydney.

The clients brief was to provide an inviting path from the front to the new front door with the style being classic, in keeping with the older features of the house. For the back garden, the client decided to remove the lawn, not only to create a low-care garden, but also to present a completely different aesthetic than the traditional flat lawn ‘out back’. Compacted gravel was used instead of lawnfor a firm yet permeable surface. The key feature of the back garden was to provide separate garden spaces; an outdoor dining area, and outdoor lounge area and a fire pit zone for drinks. The sunken area for the fire pit used the natural slope of the land and enhanced the connection with the construction of sandstone steps and a curved retaining wall, which were built to create a pleasant entry from the higher deck level down to the firepit area and delineate the space. The clients report that they use the fire pit regularly and enjoy the intimacy of the new sunken area.

This garden won the Gold Medal and Category Winner divisions at The Landscape Association 2023 Landscape Excellence Awards.
